Simple Tadka Dhal

Bismillahirahmanirahim,



For the Base
2 cups yellow lentils
1 onion
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
1/4 tsp  turmeric 
Salt to taste

For Tempering
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp mustard seeds
3-4 dried red chili

few sprigs of curry leaves

few sprigs of cilantro, for garnishing

Steps:
1. Wash the lentils well in cold water until the water runs clear
2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a saucepan and add onions and garlic along with salt and turmeric.
3. Add the sliced tomatoes and saute for another few minutes.
4. Add the lentils along with 3 cups of water or enough until it covers till the surface. You can adjust the amount of water once the lentils are cooked depending on the preferred consistency.
5.Stir and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, close with a lid and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.
6. In another pan, heat some oil. Add mustard seeds and when they start popping, add the cumin, mustard seed,dried chillies, and curry leaves.
7. Add it to the dhal. A quick stir and you are done.

Garnish with cilantro.
